Lam Research, US Firm, to Expand Chip Fabrication Equipment Supply Chain in India

Lam Research Corporation’s announcement to expand its chip fabrication equipment supply chain to India aligns with the country’s ambitious semiconductor journey spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move reflects Lam’s commitment to tapping into India’s potential as a strategic hub for semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.

By exploring partnerships with India-based suppliers, Lam aims to address the growing demand for precision components, custom parts, and high-purity gas delivery systems essential for cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication equipment. This initiative not only enhances Lam’s global supply infrastructure but also strengthens the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Lam’s recent collaboration with the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and the Indian Institute of Science underscores its commitment to nurturing a future-ready semiconductor workforce in India. The company’s investment in software licenses to upskill 2,800 students demonstrates its dedication to fostering talent development and innovation in the country.

With over two decades of presence in India, Lam is well-positioned to leverage the country’s engineering talent and infrastructure to drive supply chain growth. Prime Minister Modi’s vision for semiconductor development in India received a significant boost with the foundation stone laying for three semiconductor projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore in March. The forthcoming ‘Make in India’ chip from Micron Technology’s semiconductor plant in Gujarat further underscores India’s emergence as a key player in the global semiconductor industry.

Lam Research’s decision to expand its presence in India reflects the increasing importance of the country in the global semiconductor landscape and underscores the potential for collaboration and innovation in the sector.
