In a groundbreaking development, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management (Global Alliance) have joined forces to enhance public relations education. This collaboration is set to bring about significant advancements in PR training and leadership in Nigeria.
Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of NIPR, and Mr. Justin Green, President of Global Alliance, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Conference of African Public Relations Association (APRA) in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. This MoU marks a critical step towards launching the Public Relations and Leadership Academy and the University of Public Relations and Leadership in Nigeria. The agreement outlines a strategic partnership aimed at fostering public relations growth both in Nigeria and internationally through shared initiatives and resources.
Under the MoU, NIPR and Global Alliance will collaborate on developing academic curricula, offering expertise, facilitating faculty and student exchanges, and ensuring that educational programs meet regulatory standards. This comprehensive approach aims to elevate the quality of PR education and leadership training, setting a new benchmark for the industry.
Additionally, the agreement grants Global Alliance the ability to provide perpetual accreditation to these institutions as ‘affiliate institutions.’ This status is expected to enhance the global recognition of their programs and graduates. Global Alliance will also benefit from reduced rates on institutional services, representation on academic boards, branding opportunities, and access to training facilities for joint events.
Both organizations are committed to making this partnership a success, with a focus on amicably resolving any potential disputes. The leaders of both bodies are confident that this collaboration will bring a wealth of resources, expertise, and new opportunities for the field of public relations.
Notable attendees at the signing included Mr. Jibril Baba Ndace, NIPR Council Member and Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), and Mr. Peter Mutie, Chair of the African Regional Council for Global Alliance and CEO of Peterson Communications, Kenya. Also present were Mr. Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, outgoing President of APRA, and Dr. Wole Adamolekun, a communication scholar and Global Alliance Board Member.
This partnership signifies a major milestone in the evolution of public relations and leadership education in Nigeria and beyond. Both NIPR and Global Alliance are looking forward to a productive and collaborative relationship, which promises to bring substantial benefits to the public relations community globally.
