Google.org Unveils New AI Funding for Students and Educators

New advancements in artificial intelligence are revolutionizing learning and development in classrooms. Matthew Jones, a special education teacher, has experienced significant benefits from AI training with the International Society for Technology in Education. AI has streamlined his resource-finding process, allowing him more time to focus on other tasks and be better prepared for his students.

Google is enthusiastic about the potential of AI in education and is committed to providing equitable access to necessary skills and resources. Currently, over 30% of educators are using or experimenting with AI tools, and 72% of students are seeking guidance on responsible AI use. To support this, Google.org is investing over $25 million in five education organizations to equip over 500,000 educators and students in the U.S. with foundational AI skills. This includes:

  • International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE): Launching GenerationAI to help educators use AI responsibly in the classroom through collaborations with various educational and community organizations.
  • 4-H: Expanding AI access to rural students and educators with local programs across several states.
  • aiEDU: Providing AI curriculum and support to underserved students in rural and Indigenous communities.
  • CodePath: Delivering industry-vetted AI coursework to underserved college computing students.
  • STEM From Dance: Developing AI content to bridge gender gaps in STEM by enhancing dance choreography through technology for girls of color.

ISTE and 4-H will also integrate Google AI learning resources into their training programs, including a self-paced course, Generative AI for Educators. This is part of a broader initiative by Google.org, which has already committed $75 million through the AI Opportunity Fund to help over one million Americans acquire essential AI skills. This effort aims to equip educators and students with the skills needed for a future driven by AI.
