Dubai-based ports and logistics powerhouse DP World has been rapidly expanding its global footprint, unveiling more than 100 new freight forwarding offices worldwide in the past eight months. This move reflects a growing trend among companies like DP World to bolster control over their supply chains in response to various disruptions in the global trade landscape.
The company highlighted the vulnerabilities of the traditional asset-light freight forwarding model, which relies heavily on third-party intermediaries. By establishing its network of offices, DP World aims to mitigate such vulnerabilities and enhance inventory and fulfillment planning for businesses and their customers.
The latest addition to DP World’s growing network is Miami, as part of its overarching strategy to assist customers in navigating the complexities of global trade, including challenges stemming from climate change, geopolitics, and macroeconomic factors.
With these new offices already employing 1,000 staff, DP World anticipates significant growth in its workforce over the next year, further reinforcing its global presence.
DP World’s expansion in freight forwarding, particularly in air and ocean freight, aligns with its broader strategy of deploying a comprehensive suite of services encompassing ports, terminals, warehouses, trucks, rail, and shipping services. This integrated approach aims to enhance control and resilience across the supply chain, supported by proprietary digital technology and strategic partnerships.
Beat Simon, Group Chief Commercial Officer of Logistics at DP World, emphasized the customer-centric nature of this expansion, providing enhanced visibility and control in today’s dynamic global market.
The company’s freight forwarding services encompass a wide range of operations, including order and origin management, port handling, freight management for ocean and air, customs services, logistics, last-mile delivery, and warehousing.
Furthermore, DP World offers specialized services such as trade finance, transloading, and advanced hubs, all accessible through a unified digital platform. This digital ecosystem enables real-time tracking of goods and streamlined cargo management.
Marco Nazzari, VP Commercial Freight Forwarding at DP World, underscored the pivotal role of both digital solutions and skilled personnel in delivering next-generation freight forwarding services. Leveraging a blend of digital tools and expertise, DP World aims to simplify global trade and enhance resilience throughout the supply chain.
