Student Affairs Appoints Assistant Vice Chancellors for Student Engagement and Support

The Division of Student Affairs has introduced assistant vice chancellors as part of its newly structured strategic plan. These roles will oversee specific programs and departments under Student Success within the division.

Laura James assumes the role of assistant vice chancellor for student support, while Quincy Spencer takes on the role of assistant vice chancellor for student engagement.

Leslie Yingling, associate vice chancellor for student success, expressed excitement about Laura and Quincy’s student-focused approaches and their innovative ideas to advance strategic priorities and foster collaborations across campus.

Student Affairs’ Student Success units prioritize student life and engagement, crafting co-curricular experiences, and providing inclusive support services to aid student navigation, progression toward graduation, and post-graduation success.

James, with vast experience in support program development and community outreach, will oversee various departments including Career Connections and the Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Center.

Spencer, known for his leadership in undergraduate first-year experience programs, will oversee student activities, family engagement, and the Multicultural Center, among others.

James and Spencer both expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to innovate inclusive support practices and enhance student engagement within the university community.

Jeremy Battjes, vice chancellor for student affairs, expressed confidence in Laura and Quincy’s ability to bring innovation to engagement and support programs, citing their expertise and understanding of student affairs practices and student needs.
